A Team Chevy Tour of Indianapolis

Understandably, the city is the home base of multiple Chevrolet-powered NTT INDYCAR SERIES teams. This year the Bowtie Brand celebrated its third consecutive Manufacturer Championship and ninth since returning to INDYCAR competition in 2012.

The vehicles are powered by a 2.2L, twin-turbocharged V-6 Chevy engine and have accounted for more than half the wins in the series in the last 13 seasons. Among the Indianapolis-area teams powered by Chevrolet are Ed Carpenter Racing and Juncos Hollinger Racing.

The aforementioned V-6 Chevy engine has won the Indianapolis 500 six times since 2012, including the last two. Before that, the V-8 Chevrolet power plant won at the Brickyard on seven occasions from 1986-1993 and 2002-2005. However, the Chevrolet legacy at the 2.5-mile oval goes back to the very beginning.

Arthur Chevrolet, younger brother of company founder Louis, competed in the very first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. Louis himself ran the event four times. Their youngest brother Gaston won the 1920 edition of the race.

There is nothing like the hallowed grounds of the Brickyard, and we've also included some of our favorite images of the esteemed track in the gallery. You'll see the monument honoring Louis Chevrolet, the famous Pagoda, and the yard of bricks at the start-finish line. As is tradition for race winners, our team even kissed the bricks a time or two.

While the weather may not have cooperated with the Bowtie Nationals, it’s clear the Chevrolet presence is always strong in Indiana.
