Instrucciones Cómo controlar el filtro de aire del motor

Your engine air filter prevents dirt and debris from entering the engine, contributing to optimal engine performance. Here you’ll learn when it’s time to replace your air filter and basic information about the Air Filter Monitor, if equipped.

When to change your engine air filter

Typically, your engine air filter should be changed every 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. However, these intervals can change depending on the vehicle model, the kinds of conditions you drive in and how much you drive.

Signs your engine air filter may need to be replaced:

  • Baja economía de combustible
  • Reduced power
  • Reduced acceleration
  • Illuminated Check Engine light

For assistance with your vehicle’s engine air filter, please schedule service with a local Certified Service Expert.

Engine air filter monitor

This feature, if equipped, monitors your engine air filter and displays readings of its remaining life and when it's time to be replaced. You'll get alerts when air-filter life:

  • Falls below 10%
  • Falls to 0%

You can always check how much air-filter life remains:

  1. Turn the trip odometer reset stem until “Air Filter Life” displays.

    -O:

  2. Scroll through the Driver Information Center menu until “Air Filter Life” displays.

The display will show a percentage of air filter life remaining. It also shows other status messages if relevant:

  • “Replace at Next Oil Change”
  • “Replace Engine Air Filter Now”
  • “Check Air Filter System”
  • “Disabled”
  • “Action Required. Check Engine Air Filter System.”

Check your Owner’s Manual for instructions on how to reset the monitor after replacing the engine air filter.

Consejos

  • Ask your Certified Service provider to check the engine air filter whenever you bring your vehicle in for maintenance
  • For best accuracy, use only Genuine GM engine air filters. Certain non-GM engine air filters may be incompatible with your vehicle and produce inaccurate air-filter readings

Preguntas y respuestas

Will the engine air filter monitor readings still be accurate if I use an aftermarket engine air filter?

The engine air filter readings are more likely to be accurate with a genuine GM engine air filter. Certain non-GM engine air filters may be incompatible with your vehicle and produce inaccurate air filter readings.

Is this the same filter as the air ionizer?

No. The air ionizer is a completely different and separate component that is designed to help keep dust, pollen, dirt and other pollutants out of the vehicle’s cabin.

My vehicle's engine air filter was changed recently. Why do I see an alert saying it needs changing again?

There are two possibilities. One possibility is that large debris has clogged the engine air filter. The other possibility is that the technician who changed the filter did not reset the monitor. Have the air filter checked to be sure it is in good condition.
