DIESEL THAT DELIVERS

Our advanced Duramax® Turbo-Diesel engines elevate the capability of Chevy trucks and full-size SUVs. Built on a legacy of power and performance, these engines provide both commanding torque for towing and impressive highway de autonomía* in one confident package.

Diesel advantages

Is diesel right for you? If you tow frequently, drive long distances, or expect your truck or SUV to handle demanding work, diesel may be a smart fit. Diesel engines deliver impressive low-end torque, efficient highway performance and are built for the long haul.

More capability

When maximum towing capability matters, diesel delivers. Diesel engines are designed to handle the heaviest loads and support impressive payload capacity. Strong low-speed torque provides the pulling power needed for confident towing and tackling steep grades.

More range

Chevrolet diesel engines offer better city and highway fuel disponible en su clase* when compared to equivalent gas, which means you can go farther between fill ups. That extended range comes from the compression ignition which helps engines stay efficient even when working hard.

The diesel experience

Here's what to expect: Diesel may cost more per gallon, but it generally allows vehicles to go farther. Ownership includes Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) refills and routine maintenance. In return, you get strong torque for towing and hauling, with efficient performance built for long distances.

DIESEL FAQS

What Chevy vehicles are available with a diesel engine?

Chevrolet offers diesel engines in several trucks and SUVs, including:

• Silverado 2026
• Silverado HD 2026
• Tahoe 2026
• Suburban 2026

Chevy also offers diesel engines in commercial Silverado Medium Duty and Low Cab Forward trucks.

What is DEF on a diesel vehicle?

DEF stands for Diesel Exhaust Fluid. It is injected into the exhaust system, not the fuel system, to help reduce emissions. In vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), DEF helps convert nitrogen oxide into nitrogen and water vapor.

Who makes Duramax diesel engines?

Duramax diesel engines are produced by General Motors. The Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel is built by GM, while the Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel is produced through a joint venture between GM and Isuzu.

Do diesel trucks have catalytic converters?

Yes. Diesel trucks use an advanced exhaust aftertreatment system that includes a catalytic converter, diesel particulate filter and DEF system to help reduce emissions.

Is diesel worth it?

Diesel engines are often a good choice for drivers who tow regularly, haul heavy loads or drive long highway distances.

How often do you change oil in a diesel truck?

Most Chevrolet vehicles use an Engine Oil Life Monitoring System that indicates when service is needed. Oil and filter changes are typically required around every 7,500 miles, but intervals can vary based on driving conditions. The oil should be changed at least once a year.

Do all diesel engines have a turbo?

Most modern diesel engines use a turbocharger to improve performance and efficiency. Chevrolet Duramax engines, including the 3.0L and 6.6L, are turbo-diesel engines.

Why do diesel engines have more torque?

Diesel engines generate more torque because of their higher compression ratios, turbocharging and longer engine strokes. This design helps deliver strong pulling power at lower engine speeds.

Are diesel engines loud?

Diesel engines generally have a louder combustion chamber than gas engines do due to the higher compression. In Chevrolet trucks, advanced designed fuel systems and insulation packages have greatly reduced the noise.

What maintenance does a diesel engine need?

Diesel engines follow a maintenance schedule similar to gas engines with a few additional items. This includes regular oil and filter changes, periodic fuel filter replacement and keeping Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) topped off. Your vehicle's Owner's Manual provides the recommended service intervals.

Are diesel vehicles more fuel efficient?

In many cases, yes. Diesel engines often deliver better fuel efficiency than comparable gas engines on models like Silverado, Tahoe and Suburban,* especially on long highway drives or when towing.
