Solución de problemas Opening a blocked charge port door

If your vehicle has a charge port door, you can open it by pressing the indicator located on the charge port door. A ring will light up around the charging receptacle letting you know it's ready to be connected. If your charge port door isn't working as expected, here are some steps you can take.

When the charge port door isn’t opening

The charge port door may not open due to cold conditions when ice buildup around the door impacts movement.

If your charge port door doesn't open when you press the button, ensure the vehicle is in PARK. Then, check for anything blocking the door (like ice buildup along the edges).

  • You can remove ice buildup around the edges by sliding a thin plastic card in the small gap around the charge port door’s edge.
  • If ice buildup is too thick to break with a plastic card, lightly push the door at several points around the door’s edge to crack the obstruction.

If you have a power open/close charge port door that still won’t open, you can open it manually by doing the following:

1. Grasp the top edge of the door with your fingertips and slowly but firmly pull it out and down.

Note: Don’t use excessive force or speed when manually opening or closing the charge port door.

2. The door will open gradually, providing the internal mechanism time to adjust.

3. To close the door, push it up and in until it reaches the closed position, flush with the side of your vehicle.

Exerting too much force on the charge port door can damage its inner mechanism. You can tell the door has been damaged if:

  • The charge port door pops back open when you attempt to close it manually.
  • You can only close the charge port door 80-90% of the way.
  • You feel an obstruction when attempting to manually close the door.

If you think your door has been damaged, schedule an appointment with your dealership’s service team to address the issue.
